My Komodo liveaboard itinerary was an unforgettable 3D2N adventure. We departed from Labuan Bajo, and right away, the anticipation for what lay ahead was palpable. The best time to visit, I learned, is April to November, when the seas are calmest and underwater visibility is at its peak. This proved true for our trip, offering pristine conditions for all our snorkeling and diving excursions. Our journey began with an early morning hike to the Padar Island sunrise viewpoint. The panoramic views from the top, where three distinct beaches meet, were absolutely striking and worth every step of the climb.
Komodo Dragons and Underwater Wonders
Later that day, we embarked on the iconic Komodo dragon trekking with licensed rangers. Seeing these ancient creatures in their natural habitat was truly a humbling experience. The ranger fees were IDR 150,000 for Padar Island (shared per group) and IDR 250,000 for the Komodo dragon trekking, a small price to pay for such unique encounters. Our underwater adventures were equally spectacular. Pink Beach, with its unique rose-tinted sand, offered incredible snorkeling opportunities, revealing vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish. Manta Point was a definite highlight, where we swam alongside majestic manta rays, an experience I’ll never forget. Another gem was Taka Makassar, a pristine sandbank that emerges from the turquoise waters, perfect for sunbathing and swimming.
Choosing Your Komodo Liveaboard Experience
Our evenings often concluded with the magical Kalong Island flying fox sunset, watching thousands of bats emerge from the mangroves as the sun dipped below the horizon. For those considering a Komodo liveaboard, there are options for every budget and preference. Sharing trips on a Superior cabin on the Leticia Phinisi start from Rp 9,500,000 per cabin. Deluxe cabins are priced at Rp 12,000,000, the Master Main Deck at Rp 14,000,000, and the Tangkuban Parahu Master Suite at Rp 15,000,000 per cabin. If you prefer a more private experience, private yacht charters start from Rp 35,000,000 per night. Open trip departures occur every Friday and Monday year-round from Labuan Bajo, making planning relatively easy. Don’t forget to budget for the harbour fee of IDR 25,000 per person, usually paid once for the entire liveaboard trip.
For arrangements, a specialist offering Komodo luxury tour can coordinate this end to end.
