Our Komodo adventure began in Labuan Bajo, a bustling hub on Flores. We opted for a shared Komodo liveaboard, a fantastic way to experience the islands without chartering a whole boat. We specifically booked a Superior cabin on the Leticia Phinisi, priced at Rp 9,500,000. For those curious about other options, Deluxe cabins are Rp 12,000,000, the Master Main Deck is Rp 14,000,000, and the Tangkuban Parahu Master Suite goes for Rp 15,000,000 per cabin. Private yacht charters, for comparison, start at Rp 35,000,000 per night. We joined an open trip, which depart every Friday and Monday year-round from Labuan Bajo.
Our 3D2N Komodo Itinerary
The 3D2N itinerary packed in an incredible amount. We started with an early morning hike up Padar Island for an unforgettable sunrise viewpoint. Later, we trekked with licensed rangers to see the famous Komodo dragons, a truly humbling experience. Pink Beach offered stunning snorkeling opportunities with vibrant marine life. Manta Point was a highlight, where we swam alongside majestic manta rays. We also stopped at the pristine Taka Makassar sandbank, perfect for relaxing. Our evenings were often spent watching the incredible flying fox sunset at Kalong Island. The harbour fee was IDR 25,000 per person, which we paid once for the entire trip. Ranger fees for trekking were IDR 150,000 (shared per group) for Padar Island and an additional fee for Komodo dragon trekking.
Best Time to Visit Komodo
We timed our trip for April, and the conditions were ideal. April to November generally offers the calmest seas and best underwater visibility, making it the prime season for Komodo liveaboard cruises. The waters were crystal clear, perfect for snorkeling and diving, and the crossings between islands were smooth. This period truly enhanced our experience, allowing us to fully appreciate the natural beauty above and below the surface.
